Degreasing

Physico-chemical removal of oils and grease from surfaces, ultrasonic if required, as pre-treatment.

Degreasing is a cleaning process that breaks down, disperses and alters the oily and greasy molecules on the surface of a material.

This physico-chemical process differs from ordinary washing because it sets out to change completely the state of light or heavy, synthetic or natural, refined or crude oils. It uses suitable degreasing agents, often dissolved in solutions held in dedicated tanks or baths, and can also use ultrasound.

In industry, degreasing is often a standard pre-treatment before further processes, such as electroplating.
